Getting Started with Your Umps Home Alarm – Setup Guide

Getting Started with your Home Alarm

Introduction

Welcome to Umps. Your Home Alarm is designed to help you live safely and independently at home, with emergency support at the press of a button. This guide will help you get set up and place your first test call.

What's in the box?

Your Umps Home Alarm comes with:

  • 1 × Home Hub
  • 1 × Pendant Button with lanyard (or Wrist Worn Button, depending on your order)
  • 1 × Power cable
  • 1 × Indoor antenna (you may not need this)
  • User guide

Everything arrives ready to go. Your Hub and Pendant are already set up and paired to each other.

What is the Hub?

The Hub is the base unit that stays in your home. It plugs into a power outlet and connects to the mobile network automatically.

When you raise an alert, you speak and listen through the Hub. It has a built-in speaker and microphone, so you don't need a phone.

If the power goes out, the Hub has a backup battery that keeps it running for up to 40 hours. See what happens if your Home Alarm loses power for more detail.

What is the Pendant?

The Pendant is a small, lightweight button you wear around your neck. When you need help, press the button and your alert will be sent through the Hub.

A few things to know:

  • No charging needed. The battery lasts at least two years. We'll contact you when it's time for a replacement.
  • Wear it in the shower. The Pendant can handle water splashes, so please wear it when showering. Take it off for baths or swimming.
  • Works throughout your home. The Pendant works up to 100 metres from the Hub, which covers most homes and gardens.

When you press the Pendant, the voice call happens through the Hub. The Pendant itself doesn't have a speaker.

Where should I put the Hub?

Choose a spot where you'll be able to hear the Hub and speak to it clearly. A central location in your home works best.

Try to place it:

  • Somewhere you can easily see and reach it
  • Near a window if possible, to help with mobile signal
  • Away from the TV or radio
  • Away from bathrooms, kitchens, and heaters

How do I set it up?

Plug the Hub into a power outlet. Wait a few minutes for it to connect to the network. When it's ready, you'll hear: "Your Umps Link is online."

Check the small light on the bottom of the Hub:

  • Green or yellow light: Good signal. You're ready to go.
  • Red or flashing light: Try moving the Hub closer to a window. If that doesn't help, attach the antenna from the box.
  • Still having trouble? Call us and we'll help you get connected. You can also read what happens if your Home Alarm loses connection.

How do I test my alarm?

Once the Hub is online, place a test call to make sure everything works:

  1. Press the button on your Pendant, or press the large grey button on the Hub.
  2. If you pressed it by accident, you have 10 seconds to cancel. Just press the X button on the Hub.
  3. When the call connects, let them know it's a test call.
  4. They'll check that you can hear each other clearly from different rooms.
  5. They'll confirm your name and address.

We recommend testing from a few different spots in your home, especially the bathroom and any rooms where you spend a lot of time.

Which monitoring plan do I need?

Your Home Alarm works with one of two plans:

Professional Response connects you to a 24/7 monitoring centre. When you raise an alert, a trained operator will speak with you and arrange help.

Family Response connects you directly to your family, friends, or carers. You can have up to 5 contacts.

Can I get extra buttons?

Yes. You can add extra Pendant Buttons, Wall Buttons for the bathroom or bedroom, or Wrist Worn Buttons. Contact us if you'd like to add more. See pairing and unpairing a Pendant Button for instructions.
