Falls Detection Didn't Detect a Fall – What to Know

Falls detection didn't detect a fall

Introduction

We're sorry to hear that your fall wasn't detected. This can be worrying, and we understand if you're feeling less confident in your alarm. We'd like to explain why this can happen and what we can do to help.

Why some falls aren't detected

Falls detection works by sensing sudden movements and changes in height. Unfortunately, some types of falls don't match this pattern, which means the alarm may not recognise them. This includes:

  • Gentle or slow falls, such as sliding down a wall
  • Falls from a sitting position
  • Falls where you land against furniture rather than the floor
  • Falls where your arm remains relatively still

No fall detector on the market can detect every fall. We know this is frustrating, and we're always working to improve. For more detail on how the sensor works, see our guide to falls detection on the Mobile Alarm.

We can increase the sensitivity

If you'd like, you can increase the sensitivity of your falls detection. This may help detect more falls, though it can also increase false alarms. Give us a call if you'd like to talk through the options.

Falls detection is a backup

If you're ever able to press the SOS button yourself, that's always the most reliable way to get help. Falls detection is there as a safety net for situations where you can't.

If you have any concerns about your alarm or would like to talk through what happened, please give us a call. We're here to help.
