Choosing the Right Personal Alarm for Your Client – Umps

Choosing the right personal alarm for your client

Introduction

This article helps you decide whether the Home Alarm or Mobile Alarm is the better fit for your client. Both products are reliable and easy to use, but they suit different needs.

When is the Home Alarm the best choice?

The Home Alarm is a hub-and-pendant system designed for use at home. Consider it for clients who:

  • Spend most of their time at home
  • Want a pendant that never needs charging (the battery lasts more than two years)
  • Prefer a very lightweight pendant (just 11 grams)
  • Don't need fall detection

The pendant works within 100 metres of the hub, which covers most homes and gardens.

When is the Mobile Alarm the best choice?

The Mobile Alarm is a compact wearable device that works anywhere with mobile coverage. Consider it for clients who:

  • Leave the house regularly, whether for shopping, walks, or social activities
  • Need automatic fall detection
  • Would benefit from location tracking (the device sends its location with every alert)
  • Are comfortable charging a device every few days

The Mobile Alarm can be worn as a watch or pendant, depending on the client's preference.

What if my client needs coverage at home and in the community?

The Mobile Alarm works both at home and out in the community, so it covers both situations. Choose the Mobile Alarm if your client has any need for protection outside the home.

What about fall detection?

Only the Mobile Alarm includes automatic fall detection. If your client has a history of falls or is at risk of falling, the Mobile Alarm is usually the better choice.

It's worth noting that no fall detection system is perfect. Some falls may not be detected, and some non-fall movements may trigger an alert. We recommend clients still press the button whenever they can, rather than relying solely on automatic detection.

Which monitoring plan should I recommend?

Both alarms work with either monitoring plan:

  • Professional Response: Alerts go to a 24/7 Australian monitoring centre. Best for clients who live alone or don't have family nearby.
  • Family Response: Alerts go to up to five nominated contacts. Best for clients with reliable family or carers who can respond quickly.
