How to Wear and Care for Your Umps Mobile Alarm

Wearing and caring for your Mobile Alarm

Introduction

Your Mobile Alarm can only help you if you're wearing it. This guide covers how to wear your alarm, how to look after it, and what to keep in mind day to day.

When should I wear my Mobile Alarm?

We recommend wearing your Mobile Alarm whenever you're up and about, whether you're at home, in the garden, out shopping, or visiting friends. It works anywhere with mobile coverage, so you're protected wherever you go.

The alarm is small and lightweight. Most people find they quickly forget they're wearing it.

How can I wear it?

Your Mobile Alarm can be worn in two ways:

  • As a watch. Attach a wrist band and wear it on your wrist. We have a range of bands available, including a magnetic band that's easier to fasten if you find buckles difficult.
  • As a pendant. Attach a lanyard and wear it around your neck.

You can switch between wearing options at any time. If you'd like to try a different band or lanyard, give us a call.

Can I wear it in the shower?

Yes. Your Mobile Alarm is water-resistant and can handle splashes and shower use.

However, it's not designed for swimming or extended time underwater. Please take it off for baths, pools, spas, and the ocean, as this can cause damage.

What does the screen show?

The screen displays the current time, battery level, and mobile signal strength. This makes it easy to check that your alarm is charged and connected at a glance.

Can I wear it if I have a pacemaker?

If you have a pacemaker or implantable defibrillator, we recommend wearing the alarm on your wrist rather than as a pendant close to your chest. Please follow guidance from both Umps and your pacemaker manufacturer. For more detail, see our article on personal alarms and pacemakers.

How do I look after my Mobile Alarm?

Your Mobile Alarm is a sturdy device, but a few simple habits will help keep it working well:

  • Charge it daily. The battery lasts up to 48 hours, but we recommend charging every day so it's always ready when you need it. If you're having trouble with battery life or charging, we can help.
  • Clean with a dry cloth. Avoid chemicals or submerging the device for cleaning.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures. Don't leave the alarm in direct sunlight, in a hot car, or in freezing conditions for long periods.
  • Don't open the device. The battery is sealed and not replaceable at home.

If you drop the alarm or think it might be damaged, give us a call and we'll help you check it's working properly.
